Testimonials of Participants of the 2009-2010 MBSR-MBCT Teacher Training in Dublin

For both personal and professional reasons, the IMA’s MBSR/MBCT teacher training programme is without doubt the best investment I have ever made. From the very beginning, it has been a training of the very highest quality and integrity. It offers a chance to meet and train alongside like-minded people with a real sense of community and mutual support. International instructors – each with a wealth of experience and expertise, has offered wonderful training. Their embodiment and skilful instruction on the subtleties of mindful ‘inquiry’ – the heart of mindfulness teacher training – was each better than the next. If your aim is to teach MBSR/MBCT with integrity, I cannot recommend this programme highly enough. -David Shannon, Counselling Psychologist
Training to be an MBSR teacher with the IMA has been a life-changing and deeply rewarding experience. Over the 14 month period, the series of 4-day intensives have been carefully structured to support two parallel processes i.e. a deepening of personal mindfulness practice and an in-depth, hands-on training in leading MBSR and MBCT courses. The quality of the teaching and training and particularly, the modelling of the required skills which has been delivered by a team of committed and experienced professionals, with deeply established personal Mindfulness practice, has been superb throughout. During a typical 4-days of training, the focus shifts from experiencing the course as a participant, to studying the related theory, to breaking down each component from the teaching perspective and practising the necessary skills in pairs, triads and small groups, followed by whole group reflection and discussion. A key feature of the course has been the requirement to run the 8-week MBSR programme while supported by the group and our teachers, as has been the requirement for each student to devise and record a series of CDs to support the course that they deliver. In my view, it would simply not be possible to emerge from this training without a high degree of competence and confidence as an MBSR trainer. -Norma Kirwan, M.A.; H. Dip Ed (Secondary School Teacher, retired)
As a Behaviour Therapist, I work closely with staff that support people with intellectual disabilities. This teacher training course was a wonderful experience. It provided me a parallel process whereby, focusing on myself and my self-care enabled me to develop skills which could be used in turn with my clients, staff, and my MBSR class participants. Of all the continuing professional training programmes I have attended, this course was truly life enriching. It taught me probably some of the most useful skills I'm ever likely to learn from both my personal and professional life. Over the thirteen months of the programme I have noticed a big difference in my therapeutic practice. It was like a gift, not only for my clients but also for me. Following each session of the teacher training programme I left with a greater understanding of mindfulness and a renewed motivation for self practice. As the programme progressed I felt my own self confidence increasing in my ability to deliver mindfulness based training programmes. I highly recommend this course. -Dermot Rafter, Behaviour Therapist
